Antique Doors & Windows
DOOR 001
A superb set of four Australian red cedar room dividers, c.1880, from Brisbane, Queensland. We used these ourselves in a building we have since sold. Each door is 810mm wide and 2400mm high. They are in excellent condition, and were French polished about 25 years ago. All the hardware is present, with original cast iron door hinges, including two sets of Parliament hinges, which allow the doors to be folded back flat against walls. Original milled-edge brass knobs, original rim lock and staple. Brass flush bolts fitted to secure the outer leaves, and surface-mounted barrel bolts on one of the central panels. A Legge (U.K) mortice dead bolt, with brass face plate and including two keys, allows the doors to be securely locked, if required. Room dividers like these were used in grander Queensland homes in the late Nineteenth Century. When closed, you can admire a wall of cedar. When open, you can have one large room. We love them but we have to let them go. Stored at Yarrambat, approximately 35 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD. Price AUD: $5,500.00 in store. For further details, please click on the image.
