Antique Cast Iron Door Knockers
We have available for purchase a very large selection of genuine antique cast iron door knockers, most of which are from the Victorian period. We have been fascinated with these and over a forty year period have sold many and also accumulated a large private collection of these beautifully manufactured items.
“There is little doubt that the second half of the Nineteenth Century saw the most adventurous and best iron casting that has ever been.”
(Ref. Michael Owen: Antique Cast Iron, 1997)
The front door of a Period House makes an important statement about the authenticity and quality of the restoration/renovation that has been undertaken. Thus, an original door knocker is an essential element whereas, by contrast, an inappropriate, chrome-plated, poorly cast reproduction calls into question the attention to detail throughout the house.
All of our door knockers are complete with strikers, and all bolts and nuts - ready for fitting. They will require painting or lacquering to prevent rusting over time.
It is important that you measure the distance between the vertical mouldings of your front door to ensure that a chosen knocker is not too wide. It is equally important, with both knockers and centre door pulls, to ensure that, if you intend to install or already have installed, a screen door, there is sufficient space between the main door and the screen, to accommodate the hardware.
