Antique Cast Iron Fireplaces

For many years original, antique cast iron inserts and antique fireplace surrounds were a major part of our business. We restored and sold hundreds of them over a 40 year period. We still have a small number remaining, but demand is strong and, once they are sold, they cannot be repeated. The casting detail of the originals is always far superior to the reproductions, and the variety is huge, unlike the very limited designs available in reproductions.

A most attractive, original Victorian fire surround, with serpentine shelf, in polished Australian cedar. Finely carved corbels and additional carving in the spandrels.

FP1012
An original Australian cedar fireplace surround, recently removed from 85 Studley Park Road, Kew, near Xavier Junior School, prior to the house's demolition, in September 2023. C.1880's. Gothic inlay to the arch spandrels. Generous use of cedar, with fine carving of the corbels. Stripped and sanded.

FP1013
We love this fireplace. We put it aside, 40 years ago, for a project which didn't eventuate. It's from Queenscliff (Victoria) and still has the original supplier's label on the back. A very generous usage of Australian red cedar. Original polish and in very good condition. The shelf is 48mm thick, with finely carved corbels. C.1860-1870. The opening is 960mm and the surround would have been used around an open fireplace, rather than a cast iron insert.
