Antique Lighting - Brackets & Shades

We have a selection of original ceiling lights dating from c.1880-1930, and a large selection of antique wall brackets, some of which have been converted from gas to electricity.

Simple "goose-neck" brackets (LUMb002 and LUMb004) were used over front doors and on entrance walls, as electricity was first introduced to existing Victorian and Edwardian houses. You don't see many remaining on such houses, as they are very often replaced by inappropriate coach lights.

Antique glass shades, which are much finer and far more attractive than reproductions, are also available.

A superb wrought iron hanging light, with chain suspension and bracket. C.1920. Original glass panels are included, one of which is shown fitted. Simple to electrify. Sandblasted and primed.

LUMb000

LUMb002A
An original French five branch Art Deco cafe light, c.1930. Bronze-plated brass and turned wood. Original glass.

LUMb002B
A massive and amazing light fitting, consisting of 16 steel branches, with new 250mm white sphere shades and brass galleries, with another four as spares. The central body is turned jarrah with steel supports. The chain and ceiling rose are wrought iron, while the bottom finial is cast iron. The diameter is 2600mm and the overall height is 2000mm. It would require a very large space such as a barn, winery or billiard room. The arms can be turned through 180 degrees, to convert the unit to a downlight if required It is Australian made, c.1930s/1940s. We purchased it from an antique light shop, in Sydney, about 25 years ago for our own use. The central wiring is present, and the arms have wires through them which have been severed, but are easily joined or re-wired by an electrician. The arms are easily removed, without tools, for transport.

The shades shown below are original Holophanes. Holophane glass was invented in France, in 1893. It was produced in the U.K, then, later in New York in 1898. It is characterised by its clear moulded glass with parallel prisms, which refract and reflect light, thus restricting the absorption of light. It produces an even light, based on the principle of a Fresnel lighthouse lens. It was manufactured in many different shapes and sizes. We have collected them for 40 years, and used them throughout our shop and home. Those below are representative of what is available.
